The three of them settled inside, where Andrea served them some Chili. She soon found out that Jan’s companion was her current boyfriend, Leo, a shy and reserved young man, who had been working as a gardener for Jan before they got together.
“I told him that it would be perfect for us, right, honey?”
“Uh-hu.”
“Thank you for all your help, Andrea! I couldn’t have done it without you. Well, I guess that I could’ve asked Komei, but you have an eye for architecture. Honey, I always told her that if she didn’t want to work as a lawyer, she should become an architect.”
“And then I went and became a cook. Well, server.”
“Oh, about that job I offered you, will you take it? The restaurant owner is a good friend of mine, and he says that if you prove yourself as a hostess, he will let you become a cook.”
“I’ll actually start tomorrow.”
“That’s wonderful news, darling!
“I know. So, I always meant to ask: why did you decide to re-settle?”
Jan sighed: “I just felt so lost in the city. It certainly has an end time vibe to it. When Komei contacted me about a loan, I noticed how beautiful this little town is.”
“We’re just as broke as the big city. The toilets in the Museum have been broken for months.”
“I think it just needs a gentle hand guiding it. We could start an initiative to brighten up the town. It certainly has potential.”
“If you say so…”
