“Hey. Mind if I join you?”

Auriga lost in thought, looked up. The tall good-looking blonde- the name had slipped her- stood before her: “Sure! If you tell me your name once again?”

“Zoe.” She sat down. The two chit-chatted for a while until Zoe abruptly switched topics: “Your accent is funny.”

Auriga smiled a bit baffled: “My accent?”

“Yes. It’s not… simlish. I mean, you speak it perfectly, but you sound… weird? It’s not Belladonian or southern, it doesn’t even sound Sim-like at all!”

“Well, it’s not. I’m an alien, what you’d expect?”

“No, I didn’t mean it that way!”, Zoe quickly added, afraid that she’d angered the hybrid, “It’s just… you don’t have such a thick accent as Stella has, but you don’t speak as accentless as the redhead. You understand?”

Auriga nodded: “Yeah.”

“May I ask you why?”

The young hybrid shifted her weight: “You’re familiar with the Hybrid Registration Act of 1952?”

Zoe nodded: “I majored in history.”

“Okay. So you also know about the riots and such? To put it mildly, many Sims aren’t big fans of aliens, especially due to the fact that the abductions and impregnations are rarely amicable- but unfortunately necessary. You see our gene pool is rather thinned out- the effects this has on our population are actually really interesting… Anyway, the Sixams started ‘evacuating’ hybrids in endangered communities in the early sixties so many hybrids actually grew up in Sixam. For example, both Cyngus and Eri- the slightly less bluer boys- are 2nd generation hybrids. Andromeda and Lyra were born on earth but  had to be ‘rescued’ when they were not even ten.”

“What happened?”

“They don’t talk about it. But they grew up in Veronaville so I guess something horrible happened.”

“And you?”

“My parents sent me away when I was thirteen. They were fearing for my safety after Mayor Patel announced his anti-supes agenda.”

Zoe nodded encouraging: “Go on.”

“I kept in touch with them until they died a few years ago. Living in Sixam was so different from SimEarth. Everyone has a function: There are the basic jobs like Colony Drones, Birth Queens, our communication officers who keep in contact with other civilisations and our colonies, the flight crews and the PTs.”

“Aren’t these the abductors?”

Auriga gulped: “Actually they are more of scientists. Their job mostly consists of teaching, researching and analysing in different fields.”

“But they are responsible for abductions?”

“Yeah.”

“So what’s your profession?”

Auriga stopped for a second, then she smiled wearily: “I’m a Colony Drone. Technology and stuff.”
