PC struggles

wearyvagabond said: Nvidia GTX 1060 works great with Sims 2 after minimal fiddling; I’d definitely recommend upgrading

itsyedude said: It’s best to get the 10 series over the 7 series since it’ll be supported longer. So definitely go for a GTX 1050 Ti. A GTX 1060 GTX will pretty much run almost anything without issue.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will look into it.

Middleground’s birthday

katatty-main said: oooh, exciting!! 😀

I don’t think I’ve ever played a neighbourhood for that long. Except for that one I played like ten years ago, but I just kept on adding Sims to it (and didn’t play on a rotational basis), so I’m not sure it counts.

Term papers and Trumps

sushigal007 said: Good luck! And on the bright side, you’ve got a whole lot of material to work with!

God, I wish. Unfortunately, our history department is like really old-fashioned and strongly advises us to only use published sources (books and academic articles, basically). They only allowed us to use online sources this year, and highly limit what we can and cannot use. Otherwise, I would probably just print out every tweet Trump’s ever made regarding his politic on Russia and hand that in… so maybe it’s a good idea to impose those restrictions?

German book titles

simspressionism said: German titles are so weird most of the time

SO MANY FORCED PUNS! Stuff that’s only half translated. Fantasy books that are named after their protagonists. I would like to meet the marketing teams that come up with those titles…

And sloppy ones at that (because I’m on my potato-laptop and that’s only marginally better than my smartphone. But has spellcheck.)

Says the simmer who’s neighbourhood pictures make me feel green with envy (on a serious note, good to know that even you hate it!).

katatty-main said: oooh, this looks great! really good use of the maxis deco!

Wait til you see the other side of the lake… thanks for your compliment. I find it very hard to decorate full neigbourhoods, so it’s good to hear that people like it.

katatty-main said: oh, this is so exciting, looks really cool!!! i love a good gothic town, can’t wait to try this out 🙂

  Glad you like it!

katatty-main said: i’ve had this problem too and had to change the names in SimPE some downloaders of europa have also had this issue – i think it’s caused by different language versions? like if you made it in a german-language game english games will attempt to “translate”, but not sure

It appears that when you don’t “confirm” a name in SimPE (e.g. change it), the game will think they have no name and assign a random name to it in the game language (my SimPE does something like this, too. I guess it’s confused because my game language is set to American English, while my system language is German). Already thought “confirming” the names in SimPE will solve it. I’ll try it out tomorrow and see if it’ll work.

Sims meme

Thank you for tagging me, @taylors-simblr !

When did you start playing Sims?

2007-ish? I was babysitting my neighbours’ handicapped son with his older sister, my best friend, (I was asked because my mom works in special ed… I have no idea why they thought that would qualify me, an eleven-year-old…) and she showed me that game she’s been playing: The Sims 2. I was hooked, borrowed the base game and bought Nightlife so I could play it on our ancient family PC. Played that on that one until Sims 3 came out and I wished for a laptop for Christmas so I could play Sims 3. Played it for like 2 months and then went back to Sims 2.

Have you been playing consistently or do you have breaks inbetween?

More or less consistently. There were some breaks whenever my laptops died, but I always came back. I don’t think there’s ever been a break that was longer than 2-3 months.

Do your family & friends know that you play The Sims?

Some do. My immediate family knows, of course. I don’t run around advocating that I play the Sims, but when I click with someone (or am close friends with them)… sure, it does come up.

Do you spend more time in build or live mode? Why?

Live mode, for sure. I’m slowly getting better at building and decorating, but for a long time, I just couldn’t stand it.

Do you play with supernatural creatures (like Vampires, Werewolves etc.)? Why not?

Well, there’s a witch, two plantsims and an alien in Middleground, so you tell me.

No, but really, I love playing the supernaturals. I think they add interest to the game. I’m especially fond of the vampires in this game (I like the concept of vampires in general- the more traditional ones, at least), mostly because they were the first supernaturals I’ve been introduced to. Although their immortality might pose a problem in multigenerational gameplay…)

Do you have one specific family you play with all the time (like a legacy of some sort) or do you rotate between a couple of households?

I got into rotational play pretty early on. I was enthralled of all the stories about huge cities full of Sims (I also got into the community pretty early- the German one, that is- although I’ve always been more of a lurker). I’ve tried legacies at times, but could never stick to it (what do I do with the spares?).

Do you like to create your own neighborhoods or do you play with the existing families? Tell us about your progress 🙂

I like not having to build a neighbourhood, but sometimes I do. Most of the time, though, I take an existing neighbourhood and just modify it to fit my needs.

I almost always use existing Sims. Whether that means playing in premade neighbourhoods like Veronaville, Strangetown or even neighbourhoods like the amazing Viper Canyon by meetmetotheriver, or just use premade Sims, like didilysims extracted College Sims, the Pleasantview townies (like in Middleground, duh), or even downloaded Sims like hambergersims that have a connection to the premade Sims. I’m just a big fan of Eaxis genetics, it seems.

Do you create custom content? If so, what keeps you motivated? (If not, would you like to? What stops you from learning it? For players that don’t use mods, why do you stay away from CC?)

Not really. I sometimes upload a Sim or a house (very sporadically). I’m able to delete sandals from a Maxis mesh, but that’s about it. I think it would be a pretty cool skill to have, but I don’t really have the time to learn it. I’d much rather play the game.

If there was one piece of CC or (if you play without mods) one piece you wish the developers implemented, what would it be?

Only one piece, huh? Hm… maybe a subhood for supernaturals (that counts like one piece, right?). Someplace where they can do things connected to their supernatural state?

What other expansion and/or accessoires pack do you wish the developers would have come out with?

Uff… generally speaking, I would love if there was more generational stuff. It would be nice to have more activities for the different ages. I’ve read this on a couple other Sims memes and I can only agree with it.

Lastly, tag 5 of your favorite simblrs!

And as always I’m late to the party. I know quite a few of you already did this… I’ll just tag a few of those that show up in my recent activities. So, @simspressionism@lilleputtu@mooseabides@littleblondesim and @hexagonal-bipyramid , tell us about your playstyle (if you haven’t already and feel like it)!

simspressionism said: You’d think we are able to learn from our own history .. :/

Humans are inherently stupid creatures (the writer of this post included). That’s just a fact. We decide on a basis of “what’s best for me” (screw all the others), and if there’s someone who tells them that all the bad things happening to them (no job, no money- people in need actually get money from our state, but many feel that’s that not enough- and maybe, it really is-, no perspective) is because the state would much rather help The Others, then, unfortunately, people will vote for them. Couple that with racist sentiments and a sense of foreign infiltration and you got a toxic cocktail. It’s suddenly become fashionable again to be racist. Just like antisemitism became fashionable again in the late 1800s- early 1900s.

It’s probably gonna be fine, the party will destroy itself (has already happened in at least one state parliament), in fact, it has already started- one member of the party flat out refuses to work with the others…

I guess we’ll see in another four years.
