I tried calling Jon that night, but he never answered, so I started doing some research.

The woman’s name was Jennicor. She told me the truth: she was the wife of Jon- Jon Smith Tricou- and her family owned half the town.

So with my sanctuary destroyed, I did the only thing I could do: I packed my bags, hightailed out of the city and headed south.

Someone visited me that night.

“Where are you, you little hussy?”

image

“Who are you and what are you doing in my apartment?!”

“I know the landlord. So you’re the little floozy that Jon knocked up, huh?”

My heart sank. “Who are you?”

image

“I’m Jon’s wife, of course. But I guess you didn’t know that.”

“You- you’re what?”

image

“Listen, I certainly don’t have time for this. You’re not the first one I had to deal with, and unfortunately, I fear that you won’t be the last. Jon is weak… I suggest that you go and pack your bags first thing tomorrow and leave town and no one will have to know about this. Or else, I will have to make your life hell.”

image

“WHO. ARE. YOU?!”

“Someone who won’t let some common tramp destroy her family. I have influence over this town. I know people. I know your bosses at the company you’re working at, I know your landlord, I even know the servers at that tacky restaurant you love to visit. I can destroy you if I want. Just… don’t bother.”

And with that, she turned around and left.

The ringing of the telephone woke me up. It was DJ, telling me the newest gossip as always. I thought about telling her about my new relationship and my suspicion that I was pregnant again but decided against it. I wasn’t 100% sure yet and Jon deserved to be the first one to know if I really was pregnant.

I felt rather restless and moody that night, switching from one activity to the next.

At one point, I went to the vanity in my bedroom and chopped off most of my hair on a whim.

image

I felt very tired the next day and barely managed to drag myself to work.

image
image

I had some bad luck at work that day and lost some money due to a stupid decision I made.

image

I barely had enough money left to pay the rent and headed to bed straight after. I never felt this exhausted before, not even during exam season.

Could it be…?

We started to run into each other frequently at the restaunt and eventually, I invite him over for dinner- you know, because we always meet at the restaurant.

He accepted and over time, our dinner dates became more frequent. And I fell for him.

Working as a mailroom technician was not very exciting, but it left me with enough money to afford going out every once in a while. I loved one of these event restaurants, Bernard’s Botanical Diner. It was fun, but not too expensive.

And it was where I met Jon.
