eulaliasims said: The ‘influence to’ action is pretty awesome. Think ‘influence to…/appreciate’ will end up with an admire action? Nope, backrubs! Always! It’s like the game picks the most dramatic option.

Oh dear! I really need to use it more often!

eulaliasims said: I feel you on the shitty internet, mine goes out multiple times a day (including while I was writing this comment). I would love to hear about 16th c. naming traditions! Historical naming conventions are interesting. 😀 And ‘The Monsters of Templeton’ looks like an awesome book. I’m gonna go get it from my library tomorrow.

To make it short: Following the Lutheran Reformation, names like Hans and Gretel, the typical German names (which weren’t German at all, but Hebraic or Latin and only became German names during the medieval ages), became less popular as they didn’t fit the zeitgeist (Pietism) anymore. So they named their children “Fürchtegott” (”Fear God”), “Traugott” (”Trust in God”), “Leberecht” (”Live right”), “Thurecht” (”Do right”), which have mostly disappeared, but also “Dorothea”, “Theodor” or “Timotheus” which are still present (”Theodor” is actually becoming popular again in Germany). Most prominent example: Wolfgang “Amadeus” Mozart (Although his real name was “Theophilos”, but he also called himself “Gottlieb” for good measure. But hey, that’s an artist to ya!). Before Pietism, they were really big on names from the Greek mythology or Roman history. A little while after they started ‘adapting’ male names into female ones. That’s where we got names such as “Louise”, “Paula” or “Josephine”, but also names like “Ludgera” (from the German name “Ludger”) which sound a bit absurd. It’s funny how names you think that sound native to your language/ country are really just adaptations/ translations from another language.

Oh, hope you’ll enjoy it! I actually once recommended it to a friend and she absolutely hated it!

I love Jodie Larson as a villain/ dork and I’m not afraid to admit it! I mean, even their family bio suggests she made her money in dubious ways!

10 questions

I got tagged by eulaliasims. Thanks!

1. If you like to decorate in the Sims, what’s your favorite type of room to do? If you don’t, how do you handle decorating instead? Bare minimum? Downloading furnished lots?

Oh god, I’m terrible at decorating. I mean, I can make it look tolerable, but I’ll never be the queen of clutter or sth like that. So yeah, I’m always happy when I find decorated/partially furnished (I’m very particular about the amount of CC in my game- I prefer maxis-addons to everything else) lots, so I have at least some guidelines on what to do. I think I got better over the last few month- thanks to the quartertile cheat (how could I play this game for so long without knowing about it!).

2. Do you like to listen to anything like music or podcasts when you play?

I usually have my television running in the background. German TV offers plenty of trash to listen to while simming.

3. What made you choose your first expansion pack for the game (or games, if you play more than one iteration of the Sims)?

Ehm… I ‘borrowed’ the base game from a friend- long story- and had to get one expansion pack so I could play the game on my PC (she understandably wanted it back at some point). I think I chose Nightlife because… vampires? Downtown? It was probably the only expansion pack available at the department store. I loved it and played the game for 1 year on our old crappy family PC with just the base game plus Nightlife installed. Couple that with the fact that I didn’t know about CC back then and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen enough NL clothes for a lifetime.

4.  What’s your favorite kind of weather?

Cloudy (but not so cloudy that you can’t see the sky) with lots of indirect sunlight and a light breeze. Around 22°C/71°F.

5. What’s the first ever music album you remember buying?

That I personally bought or that someone got for me? A ‘Tokio Hotel’ cd (2005) if you meant the latter (they were really popular back then and my cool American friend was a huge fan, thereby little primary school me was, too), and if you mean the first album I ever bought,.. um, ITunes says that it was ‘The Lion King- Original Broadway Cast’ in 2013 (holy shit!). I’m more of a single person (that would be some Black Eyed Peas song back when I got my first IPod in 2009).

6. Do you prefer default townies, custom townies, or no townies at all? (Or maybe default and custom?)

Depends. If I were to play a pre-made neighbourhood, I’d prefer the townies shipped with it (or the flattened version- only the relevant ones). If I play a small self-made hood, no townies at all, and if I feel funny, I’ll just play the townies XD.

7. Why is your favorite book your favorite?

Uff… I’d call this one my all time favorite book. It’s got everything: A ‘murder mystery’, a huge family secret (I’m a sucker for that), family trees (!), a charismatic protagonist and just the right amount of fantasy. Runner up: that one, for nostalgia and the ‘lore’.

8. What’s the latest song/jingle to get stuck in your head?

‘Halleluja’ in its various iterations. My father got a karaoke app and sent his recording to me… thankfully, I’ve got the Cohen version stuck in my head. Also, ‘Hellfire’ from the ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’. One of the most underrated villain songs. They are currently battling each other in my head, trying to get the upper hand.

9. What object (CC or not) do you use the most in your game?

Hm… that’s a tough one. You know what? It’s that lamp. That f*cking lamp. You know which one. That one that’s just… a lamp. Probably shipped with the basegame. Not fancy, not kitschy, cheap enough to staff every room with it. It’s probably that one.

10. How do you pick names for your sims?

I’m a name freak (go on, ask my about 16. century naming traditions in Northern Germany!), so, most of the time I already have a name stuck in my head when the Sim has his/her baby. Other times, I make one up on the spot. In certain situations (when I want a theme, or it is a premade family, or there are already a lot of siblings and I run out of ideas) I’ll use a name generator (they are pretty nifty. There are some that let you type in the siblings’ names and give you matching ones! It’s heaven to me!).

Thank you again, I had a blast. Since my internet connection crashed three times while I answered this (I’m literally living in a metropolis, why is my internet so shitty?!), I won’t tag anyone and won’t think up new questions (sorry). So it’s kind of open-house: if you feel like doing this “10 questions tag”, do it, just use eulaliasims’ questions or other ones you saw on the internet! Have fun!

Let’s hope I’ll be able to post this!

And then I kinda effed up. I wanted Joe and Christy to stop smooching each other autonomously because if it weren’t for ACR, they wouldn’t even be on speaking terms right now. So I directed Sandy to influence Joe to “fight” with Christy, thinking he would throw a drink in her face or something like that.

So that is the story of how I let one of my Sims persuade another to beat up a pregnant woman. I need to use the “Influence to” action more.
